Board of Zoning Appeals Approves Updated Rules of Procedure- 7/24/24

The Board of Zoning Appeals convened for a special session on July 24, 2024, at 6:30 pm. In attendance were board members Janey Livingston, Joyce Brindley, and Paul Stone, with Scott Smith participating via speakerphone and Rick Hoeing joining through Zoom.

Krista Duvall, Area Plan Director, presented updates to the Rules of Procedure for the Area Plan Commission, noting that the document had been revised to align with the current practices of the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). Duvall highlighted the importance of these updates to streamline the BZA’s operations.

The BZA’s attorney explained the transition of the Rules of Procedure from an ordinance to a resolution. This change, being adopted by many BZA boards, simplifies the process for future amendments by reducing the procedural complexities associated with ordinances.

Paul Stone, who presided over the meeting, opened the floor for public and board comments or questions. With no feedback, Janey Livingston motioned to approve the updated Rules of Procedure Resolution, which was seconded by Joyce Brindley. The resolution was unanimously passed with a 5-0 vote.
